Production Push

I am in full production mode now getting ready for the summer.  I will be at Muskoka Arts and Craft Show in July and hopefully at Summerfolk in Owen Sound in August.  I have one application to get out to The Moose Show for a November Christmas show.  I was disappointed that I was not accepted at he Hillside Music Festival but I will try not to take it personally.  Jewellery has to be a Circle arts next Friday so I am very motivated at he moment.  I am teaching a private lesson today so It should be fun.  Adult students are so enthusiastic!!

more time needed

I have been experiencing a very common problem with upstart new businesses, there is only 24 hours in a day and you have to sleep for some. I have been accepted at Circle Arts in Tobermory, a very beautiful gallery on the Bruce Peninsula, so I am making jewellery for their opening in May. I also teach jewellery making classes. The whole creating an internet presence is also part of the business. It is all a bunch of fun but I also scramble to spend quality time with oh so patient and loving daughter and partner.

The best part is being so happy creating my dream! It is all soo worth it. Gotta go....The students are arriving!!

building a web site that works

I had a very interesting and informative meeting this morning with web developer Lynda Chiotti. She is helping me to morph my website into a polished jewellery selling machine. She is making me think hard about who my customers are and what I am offering to them. I have a lot of thinking to do to form my web page design ideas with my business vision. A bit of maketing psycology will help too. If you want to check out my not so effective website Silverstrong Jewellery and see how it will change over the next few weeks please do. Helpful comments would be great. Thanks Lynda!!

wedding ring workshop

Taught my first wedding ring workshop today. It was great and the couple made great rings! They each made a white gold ring and seemed to really enjoy the day.

emerging jewellery artist

Welcome to my blog. This is the first post for my blog which will diary the process I have been going through as an emerging jewellery artist. I have been making jewellery for 17 years but I have just moved to Owen Sound Ontario after years living away from the area. I am in the position of learning about how the business works here in Ontario. It is a big learning curve as I apprenticed in Yellowknife and didn't know anything about how jewellery artists made money in the south. People asked what shows I had done. I have learned that that meant where have I sold my work, at festivals, art shows, Christmas sales, etc...

I have been in business here for about a year and things are progressing nicely. I'll continue writing about what has happened and the exciting things that are happening at present. My big questions always remains in the back of my head "Can I actually make a living at this????"
